The 1997 Ada-Europe Conference will be held in London's Tower Thistle Hotel, (GIF image, 264K).

Located in the historic City of London, the conference venue is ideally located for some of the capital's major tourist sites. The hotel overlooks the River Thames and Tower Bridge (JPEG image, 76K). The Tower of London (JPEG image, 42K), home of the Crown Jewels, is just across the street.

Travel information

Hotel

The Tower Thistle Hotel is at St Katharine's Way, and is within walking distance of Tower Hill London Underground station (District or Circle lines), and Tower Gateway on the Docklands Light Railway. Follow signs for St Katharine's Dock, the World Trade Centre and the Tower Thistle Hotel. These will guide you past the Tower of London and take you under the approach road to Tower Bridge. Follow the path towards Tobacco Dock, then along St Katharine's Way (passing the World Trade Centre on your left). The Tower Hotel is located to the left of Tower Bridge.

By air:

Gatwick Airport has an express rail service every 15 minutes to Victoria Station, the journey taking 30 minutes. From Victoria, take a District or Circle line train to Tower Hill station. The cost of a Zone 1 single ticket from Gatwick to Tower Hill is £10.00.

Heathrow Airport is the western terminus of the Piccadilly Underground line. Delegates arriving at Heathrow and taking an Underground train should change at Gloucester Road station for District or Circle line trains to Tower Hill. The cost of a single ticket from Heathrow to Tower Hill is £3.20.

The airport information desk at London City Airport can provide information about taxis and minicabs from the airport to the Tower Hotel - the cost is approximately £8-£10. Alternatively, catch the shuttle bus from the airport to Canary Wharf and then take the Docklands Light Railway to Tower Gateway; the bus fare bus is £2 and the DLR single fare will cost £1.50. By rail:

Eurostar trains from Calais, Lille, Brussels and Paris terminate at Waterloo Station. Taxis from Waterloo are convenient. Using the Underground, the Northern line from Waterloo connects at Embankment with Circle or District line trains to Tower Hill.

By car:

The Hotel has limited parking and the charge for residents at the Tower is £8.50 per 24 hours; the charge for non-residents is £13 per 24 hours.
