Ada-Europe Workplan 1995

(approved by the General Assembly 1994 in Copenhagen)

Author: Karlotto Mangold (past Ada-Europe Secretary)

This document describes the work Ada-Europe will undertake during the period 1st January 1995 until 31st December 1995. The work items described below have been chosen by the Associate Members of Ada-Europe as appropriate for this year. The success of these activities in meeting the given objectives is dependent on the support of the members for their input, for example to Ada-Europe News, and their action, for example in supporting Working Groups. Additional activities to those described here may be undertaken provided that the new activities are in conformance with the objectives described below and that they are approved by the Ada-Europe Board.

Newsletter and Information dissemination

Objectives:

To keep the European Ada community informed of events taking place, new books and products, standardisation activities and other topics of general interest.

To make available to the European Ada community English translations of articles of general interest.

To make available to the European Ada community information which is too large to be published in Ada-Europe News, for example outputs from the standardization process, secondary standards, comparisons of Ada with other high level languages.

Activities:

Publish a Newsletter, Ada-Europe News, which is available quarterly and contains such information. The editors are Francesco Gomez Molinero and Juan A. de la Puente. Both the editors and the Ada-Europe Secretariat will accept reports for publication. The Ada-Europe Secretariat will actively seek information to be published. Ada-Europe News is distributed to all Ada-Europe members as part of their membership either indirectly through the Associate members or directly.

Ada-Europe News will contain the above mentioned articles when they become available. Both the editors and the Ada-Europe Secretariat will accept articles for publication. The Ada-Europe Secretariat will actively seek articles to be published.

The editors of Ada-Europe News will accept advertisements for Ada related jobs free of charge.

Ada-Europe News may also contain advertisements for Ada-related products.

Ada-Europe will seek and accept such documents for distribution. The available material will be announced in Ada-Europe News. Ada-Europe will charge a fee for distribution to cover handling charges.

Conferences and Workshops

Objectives:

To hold an annual international conference and exhibition where the latest developments which impact the use of Ada and Software Engineering are presented and new products are shown.

Activities:

Ada-Europe, in association with Ada in Aerospace, is arranging the European Ada Conference '95. Furthermore Ada-Europe is preparing the '96 conference. The Ada-Europe Board, through a nominated Ada-Europe Board member provides a point of contact for all conferences and hence experience gained is retained and reused. The conferences and exhibitions are open to the Ada community world wide and a registration fee is charged. In recent years the annual conference seems to have been the most important activity of Ada-Europe. However, attendance at such an event is becoming more and more difficult for economic reasons, and so the Board proposes to support the attendance at the conference as far as possible. To do this Ada-Europe will use some of its assets to sponsor the conference thus reducing the registration fee and hence making the conference more attractive. A direct result will be that Ada-Europe will not receive an income from the conference, which it has received in recent years.

Working Groups

Objectives:

To promote discussion about, and action for, various topics which impact the development of Ada software by good engineering practice.

Activities:

In recent years there has been no activitiy in this area from Ada-Europe members. Therefore, at the moment there is no working group in existence. Nevertheless Ada-Europe is willing to install and fund such working-groups and encourages individuals to form such groups.

International Liaison

Objectives:

To maintain contact with SIGAda and other Ada organisations world- wide, for exchange of information

Activities:

To establish cooperation with SIGAda, Ada-Europe has signed a Me- morandum of Understanding. SIGAda has appointed an International Representative. To maintain this good and close contact, Ada-Europe will invite three representatives of SIGAda to the annual conference as guests of Ada-Europe.

Support of Associate Members

Objectives:

To support associate members in widening their national activities into the European Ada community.

Activities:

If there are activities or services, offered by associate member bodies to their members, which are of interest and benefit to other members. Ada-Europe will make available those services, offered by an associate member, to all other members.

Organisational Matters

Objectives:

To maintain the smooth running of Ada-Europe, such that it meets the objectives given here, in a cost effective manner.

Activities:

Ada-Europe will be managed by a Board of volunteers elected by the Ada-Europe membership. The Board will delegate responsibilities to its Members and will be supported by the Secretariat. Ada-Europe will fund the operating costs of the Board and the Secretariat according to the agreed budget.
